OBITUARY
Air Marshal Dipankar Ganguly VSM **

Air Marshal Dipankar Ganguly was a graduate from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was commissioned in the Indian Army on 22 Mar 1973. He specialized in Cardio-thoracic Surgery in 1989 and was posted to prestigious Armed Forces hospitals as a Senior Advisor and Consultant. He commanded Command Hospital (Northern Command) & served as DCIDS (Med) before taking over as DGMS (Air). He served as DGMS (Air) & President of the Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine from 01 Jun 2010 to 31 Jul 2011. For his exemplary service, he was awarded the Vishisht Sewa Medal twice by the President of India. An avid cricketer, a well-read professional and an exceptional conversationalist, who endeared himself to one and all with his uncanny observations and exceptional wit. His narrations of life-time occurrences and events in an inimitable style will be remembered for posterity. His passion for music and singing was unparalleled and his renditions of ‘Hemant Kumar’ numbers would remain pleasant memories for several of his colleagues and team-mates.
Air Cmde SP Deshmukh

Air Commodore Sarashchandra Padmakarrao Deshmukh was commissioned in the Indian Air Force on 17 Jan 1965 and retired on 31 May 2000. He was a specialist in Aerospace Medicine, (DIP) and ENT (MS) and was closely associated with the Institute of Aerospace Medicine. During his service career, he was closely associated with the management of Air Sickness among ab-initio flying trainees. His fondness for the subject and avid interest led to the integration of yoga and specific physical exercises in the regimen of treatment of air-sickness among ab-initio flight trainees as an adjuvant to the other methods of addressing the common malady. He is also associated with the development and fabrication of the Gimble Mounted Tumbling Device (GMTD) which was used for re-conditioning to motion stimulus in varying axes. His appointments include the command of AeroMedical Training Centre (AMTC) and the prestigious Institute of Aerospace Medicine, which he commanded as his last posting. He was a scholar, teacher, guide, examiner of Bangalore University & RGUHS and a researcher par excellence. Post retirement, while he continued being associated with the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, he was closely associated with programmes of community development, performing arts and social work in the locality he stayed and achieved a status of reverence and respect. He is survived by his wife and three children. His legacy remains his fondness for his speciality and unstinted pursuance of his topic of interest to a point where it reached the pinnacle of glory.
Gp Capt GS Nayar

Gp Capt Gopalapillai Sreedharan Nayar, BSc MBBS MD (Med) Dip (Av Med) FAeMS, commonly referred to as ‘GS’ or ‘GS Sir’, was a graduate from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, a post graduate in Internal Medicine and Aerospace Medicine and a Fellow of the Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine. He joined the IAF on 22 Jan 1968 and served it till he took a premature separation from service on 05 Nov 1999. He was associated with the specialty of Aerospace Medicine integrally as an eternal student, exemplary teacher, guide to students, and an examiner with the Bangalore University & RGUHS, a writer and doyen. His contributions in Space Medicine, Civil Aviation Medicine and Human Factors were path-breaking. He was a pioneer, a technology buff, a person who could visualize what the future holds and work towards it. His ideas and thoughts, which he penned and typed lucidly, were not only futuristic but rational and had the clarity emanating from logic and cogent reasoning which resulted in several changes in existing policies. He chose to embark on a second innings at a time when his first innings was unbeaten. In the second innings, he focused on areas of personnel wellness, operational safety, technology based solutions in medicine and had a foray as a medical entrepreneur. He was the Chairman and co-founder of Ojus AnyTimeMedicare Services Pvt. Ltd which deals with promoting predictive, preventive, proactive healthcare and wellness management, a concept which was dear to him and he helped evolve. He was an efficient doctor, specialist, manager, entrepreneur, mentor, friend, guide, teacher, gentleman and professional all rolled into one. He left for his heavenly abode at a young age of 74, while still working in his office, leaving a void that shall remain unfilled for posterity. He is survived by his wife and two children. His vision and thoughts shall remain guiding beacons for successive generations.
